{"id":1430,"date":"2010-06-29T23:26:53","date_gmt":"2010-06-30T03:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=1430"},"modified":"2010-06-29T23:26:53","modified_gmt":"2010-06-30T03:26:53","slug":"may-14-2010-letter-from-our-ministry-of-the-environment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=1430","title":{"rendered":"May 14, 2010 letter from the Ministry of the Environment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Perhaps as a result of the huge public response that the proponent&#8217;s environmental screening report did not adequately address significant issues, on May 14, 2010 the Ministry of the Environment&#8217;s Environmental Assessment and Approvals Branch wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/66bala.shnier.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">this letter<\/a> to those who requested that the project be elevated to require a individual environmental assessment.<\/p>\n<p>The letter requires that the proponent conduct &#8220;further study with respect to navigtion matters and economic impacts&#8221; and to report back in 60 days (presumably by July 14, 2010).<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that the Ministry of the Environment apparently agrees that the environmental screening report avoided responding to serious issues.<\/p>\n<p>The bad news is that we don&#8217;t know exactly what information or level of detail is required from the proponent or whether we will have an opportunity to see this additional information.
