{"id":2955,"date":"2011-06-21T09:45:57","date_gmt":"2011-06-21T13:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=2955"},"modified":"2011-06-21T09:56:01","modified_gmt":"2011-06-21T13:56:01","slug":"status-update-%e2%80%93-even-more-issues-still-no-response-from-proponent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=2955","title":{"rendered":"Status Update \u2013 even more issues, still no response from proponent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Summary<\/strong><br \/>\nSome of the many unaddressed concerns about the proposed hydro-electric generating station at the Bala Falls <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Bala-Falls-Update-20110620.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">are here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some History<\/strong><br \/>\nTo summarize what has happened so far:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>October 2009 the proponent issued their <a title=\"environmental screening report\" href=\"http:\/\/balafalls.ca\/esrgood.html\" target=\"_blank\">environmental screening report<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>November 2009 we <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/11\/savethebalafalls-esr-technical-response-20091127.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">detailed many unaddressed issues<\/a> (as did many members of the public).<\/li>\n<li>March 2011, the Director of the Environmental Assessment and Approvals Branch of the Ministry of the Environment <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bala-falls-decision-letter-requesters-mar-25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">denied all the requests<\/a> that this project be elevated. The MoE also <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/bala-falls-decision-letter-mar-25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">sent a letter to the proponent<\/a> which included the agreement which would require the proposed station to use a cycled operation.<\/li>\n<li>March 2011 we sent our <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/savethebalafallscom-cycling-concerns-20110322.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">concerns about cycling operation<\/a> to Fisheries and Oceans Canada. We received a response that they are working on a response.<\/li>\n<li>April 2011, we <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/savethebalafalls-review-request-20110416.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">requested that the Minister of the Environment review<\/a> the Director&#8217;s decision. The Township of Muskoka Lakes also <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/township-review-request-20110418.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">sent in a request<\/a> (as did many members of the public). The Moon River Property Owners&#8217; Association also <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=2813\" target=\"_blank\">sent in a request<\/a>, this included the <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/attachment-c.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">156 questions<\/a> gathered by the Township in response to the proponent&#8217;s statement that they would only accept written questions (the proponent has not yet responded).<\/li>\n<li>June 2011, due to <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=2918\" target=\"_blank\">additional information received<\/a>, we <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/review-request-responses-comments-20110606.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">detailed some of our unaddressed concerns<\/a> about the cycling operation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Summary Some of the many unaddressed concerns about the proposed hydro-electric generating station at the Bala Falls are here.
