{"id":4545,"date":"2014-01-13T10:20:44","date_gmt":"2014-01-13T15:20:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=4545"},"modified":"2014-08-23T20:30:43","modified_gmt":"2014-08-24T00:30:43","slug":"the-bala-falls-really-ae-unique","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=4545","title":{"rendered":"The Bala Falls really are unique"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have personally visited the following nearby hydro-electric generating stations:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Hanna Chute (Bracebridge)<\/li>\n<li>Matthias Falls (Bracebridge)<\/li>\n<li>Minden<\/li>\n<li>Muskoka South Falls (Bracebridge)<\/li>\n<li>Trethewey Falls (Bracebridge)<\/li>\n<li>Bracebridge Falls<\/li>\n<li>Wilson\u2019s Falls (Bracebridge)<\/li>\n<li>High Falls (Bracebridge)<\/li>\n<li>Ragged Rapids (Bala)<\/li>\n<li>Wasdell Falls (Severn Bridge)<\/li>\n<li>Fenelon Falls<\/li>\n<li>Auburn (Peterborough)<\/li>\n<li>London Street (Peterborough)<\/li>\n<li>Shand Dam (Fergus)<\/li>\n<li>Heywood (St. Catherines)<\/li>\n<li>Elliot Falls (Kawartha Lakes)<\/li>\n<li>Fletcher\u2019s Horse World (Waterford)<\/li>\n<li>South River (north of Sundridge)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>And as <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=3497\" target=\"_blank\">summarized here<\/a>, none of these present the risks to public safety that the proposed generating station at the Bala Falls would.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>None<\/strong><\/span> of the above generating stations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Have in-water recreation both upstream and downstream within 50&#8242; \u2013 but Bala does.<\/li>\n<li>Have public and private boat docks within 200&#8242; \u2013 but Bala does.<\/li>\n<li>Have private residences within 200&#8242; \u2013 but Bala does.<\/li>\n<li>Are the focal point for visitors to the local town \u2013 but the Bala Falls are.<\/li>\n<li>Have shops and restaurants and other public infrastructure, such as parking lots, parks, vantage points, and public washrooms, facilitating and promoting tourism activities at the falls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Bala Falls are simply a different situation than elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>The Bala Falls are simply not suitable for the proposed hydro-electric generating station, as it would create extreme dangers to the long-time in-water recreational activities; wading, swimming, scuba diving, canoeing, and so on.
