More <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=7551\" target=\"_blank\">detail is here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This same group within the MNR is ignoring our concerns that the proponent&#8217;s plans to construct a proposed hydro-electric generating station at the Bala falls would have too <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=7497\" target=\"_blank\">high a probability of flooding Lake Muskoka<\/a>. The MNR is also <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=7467\" target=\"_blank\">not accepting their responsibility for public safety<\/a>, and are making <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=7574\" target=\"_blank\">ridiculous statements<\/a> \u2013 which can&#8217;t be ignored as the result would be drowning unsuspecting tourists.<br \/> \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Our booth at the Cottage Life Show<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/20160402_182623,CottageLifeShowBooth,20160402.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4053\" style=\"border: 2px solid black;\" src=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/20160402_182623,CottageLifeShowBooth,20160402,770x577.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"770\" height=\"577\" \/><\/a><em>Some of our many volunteers at the 2016 Spring Cottage Life Show<br \/> <\/em><\/p>\n<p>We had a great three days at the Cottage Life Show \u2013 which was so busy they had to briefly close the entire International Centre&#8217;s parking lot even on the Friday. We had the opportunity to introduce and explain the situation to a huge number of people, our hand-out brochure <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/2016CottageLifeShowBrochure.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">is here<\/a>. We are still entering the many new e-Newsletter subscriptions and Memberships received at the show, and will be sending out introductory information to our many new supporters soon.<\/p>\n<p>At the show, we also learned that some people who think the proposed Bala generating station should proceed don&#8217;t understand that the proposed Bala generating station would:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Create <strong>over ten time<\/strong>s the flow of the Wilson&#8217;s Falls generating station, whose operator confirms the 2008 drowning of a 16 year-old-boy there in 2008 was caused by their station.<\/li>\n<li>Be started, automatically and remotely, with no warning or operator present, at about noon on summer days, just when people would be in the water a few feet away.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And that due to the public and private docks nearby, swimming and wading could not be prohibited in the area.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re asking the provincial government to not provide any further approvals until the proponent has presented a plan showing how they could safely operate their proposed generating station.<br \/> \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>MPP Norm Miller<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wtOh1RSPViI?rel=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As a result of a great meeting with our MPP Norm Miller:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>He was able to read our Petition to the Ontario legislature, on April 4, 2016. You can view the <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/wtOh1RSPViI\" target=\"_blank\">video here<\/a>, the Hansard record <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ontla.on.ca\/web\/house-proceedings\/house_detail.do?Date=2016-04-04&amp;Parl=41&amp;Sess=1&amp;locale=en#P509_104047\" target=\"_blank\">is here<\/a>, and our <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/PublicSafetyInBala,Petition,20160331.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Petition is here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>He presented two written Order Paper questions to the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry (see questions 654 and 657, near the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ontla.on.ca\/web\/house-proceedings\/written_questions.do?locale=en\" target=\"_blank\">bottom here<\/a>).<br \/> \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Ontario Rivers Alliance<\/strong><\/span><br \/> The <a href=\"http:\/\/ontarioriversalliance.ca\" target=\"_blank\">Ontario Rivers Alliance<\/a> advocates for healthy river ecosystems in Ontario.
