{"id":8978,"date":"2018-08-29T11:51:35","date_gmt":"2018-08-29T15:51:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=8978"},"modified":"2018-08-30T00:08:01","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T04:08:01","slug":"e-newsletter-august-29-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=8978","title":{"rendered":"e-Newsletter, August 29, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Premier Doug Ford&#39;s statement today<\/strong><br \/>\nAt an unrelated press conference today, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/sGaUovU8sKM?t=1279\" target=\"_blank\">Premier Doug Ford stated<\/a> he intends to renege on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/FordNationDougFord\/videos\/1588144837973141\/\" target=\"_blank\">promise<\/a>&nbsp;(promise transcript <a href=\"https:\/\/savethebalafalls.com\/?p=8670\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) to stop the proposed hydro-electric generating station at the Bala falls and claims he had: <em>&quot;endless consultation with the group from Bala&quot;<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This follows a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.ontario.ca\/ene\/en\/2018\/08\/ontario-helping-protect-the-muskoka-watershed.html\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a> last week where the PC government announced the funding of a Muskoka watershed advisory group which they claimed would respond to our concerns.<\/p>\n<p>The facts are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This advisory group would <strong>not<\/strong> address the public safety concerns the proposed project would create, and it would <strong>not<\/strong> prevent Ontarians from having to pay this&nbsp;private developer $100M dollars over the 40-years of operation.<\/li>\n<li>This would not fix a project that <strong><em>&quot;stinks of political interest and insider deals&quot;<\/em><\/strong> and <em>&quot;find out who is part of the big scam&quot;<\/em>, as Doug Ford himself stated in Margaret Burgess Park on February 27, 2018.<\/li>\n<li>The proponent does <strong>not<\/strong> yet have the permits needed to operate their proposed project &ndash; which can be stopped, there&#39;s nothing complicated about filling-in a hole.<\/li>\n<li>There are <strong>fatal flaws<\/strong> in this proposed project that we and the proponent are aware of. Despite Premier Ford&#39;s claim to have consulted with the community, they have not, and Premier Ford&#39;s office does not know of these fatal flaws, yet they will not meet with us to help Premier Ford keep his promise.<\/li>\n<li>We have hired a public affairs&nbsp;firm known for their aggressive tactics and late-breaking turn-arounds. As you can see from coverage in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/canada\/article-ford-backtracks-on-promise-to-cancel-bala-falls-project\/\" target=\"_blank\">Globe and Mail<\/a><\/strong> and&nbsp;the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/news\/queenspark\/2018\/08\/28\/ford-says-he-has-to-break-promise-to-stop-bala-falls-hydroelectric-project.html\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Star<\/a><\/strong>, it is big news that the Doug Ford government would renege on such a clearly-stated promise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<strong>What you can do to help<\/strong><br \/>\nCome out to our rally at the Bala north bridge this <strong>Saturday September 1, 2018 at noon<\/strong> to show you still care.
