Hello, and welcome to the SaveTheBalaFalls.com web site.

Save the Bala Falls is a conduit for information about the proposed hydro-electric generating station at the Bala falls. For years we have been trying to find out:

  • Would the proposed station be safe?

  • Would it be as beautiful as the area is?

  • Would there be enough water over the falls to continue to draw people to Bala?

We are delighted that the Muskoka Lakes Association has passed a resolution (letter to Township of Muskoka Lakes here, newsletter article on page 5 here) in opposition to the project as currently proposed. The Bala falls need your help, It would be great if you, and your family and friends could:

  1. We are totally opposed to this project. It is going to ruin a beautiful little town for tourists, cottagers and year round residents, while a private company puts money in their pockets. This project will produce very minimal amounts of energy and it is not needed in the province. Swift River is a very greedy company. How could the company keep on pressing this when they knew most of the people in Bala did NOT agree with project, and there was an independent vote of the residents to prove this. And even, the provincial government kept on pressing. Kathleen Wynne has never visited the site. Why is the Mayor of the TML pushing for this project, when he does not live in Bala or the Moon River? Does he have an interest in the company? He did deny this at meetings prior to the election, but he has lied several times.

  2. My family & I are fully supportive of Stopping Swift River Energy. It seems the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) is managing our water levels to maximize the amount of power that Swift River will be able to generate from their proposed new plant without regard to Muskoka residents & business operators who have built their properties depending on many years of predictable water levels. We, the local taxpayer, are being hurt & disadvantaged at the expense of one privately owned company who will reap the rewards at our expense. This unacceptable situation must be stopped by the Ontario Government – NOW.
The Muskoka Lakes Association is opposed, our Municipal Government is mostly opposed, as well as most other people & organizations familiar with this proposed project.
