  1. My heart goes out to those in Bala, when one wind turbine can do the work of this highly disruptive hydroelectric project.

No proper report on the return on investment, or the effect on the tourism industry has been done, and the temporary jobs created by this are a pittance in comparison of the long term disastrous environmental impact this will have on this very beautiful part of the country. I was in Bala two days ago, and it is extraordinarily scenic, and beloved.

As Canadians, we are spoiled with the beauty of our landscape, but if a private company can step and impose an infrastructure project, which is not needed, and can be done in a less destructive, alternative fashion, then we are responsible for the loss of our own heritage.

There is nothing ‘green’ about a private company’s profiteering from this very small waterfall. This will destroy the beauty of an important historical site, with no proven environmental justification for its implementation.

We are all paying the price for Premier McGuinty’s ‘get it done at all costs’ attitude used to compensate for his previous reputation as someone slow to implement major projects- and hundreds of these small projects will take away the charm and beauty of small towns, whose greatest asset is to attract tourism, and showcase our Canadian heritage, for infrastructure which will generate negligible amounts of energy.

What is the Liberal Party thinking in terms of the green energy act, and when are they going to hire international experts to advise them on best practices in this rapidly growing field of sustainable infrastructure development?

There are different types of wind turbines, without propellers, to be researched as well, that do not damage birds or create noise. Why does the Samsung deal exclude these new types of turbines, and why are they not included as part of EAs for wind turbines?
